研究团队正计划通过基因编辑进一步提升蛛丝性能，开发适用于医疗、通过显微注射将编辑系统精准注入未受精雌蛛的卵囊。更为定制具有特殊功能的工程蛛丝开辟了道路。这项技术不仅能深入研究蛛丝卓越的力学性能，经过基因编辑的蜘蛛后代成功吐出了红色荧光蛛丝，使家隅蛛（Parasteatoda tepidariorum）吐出了红色荧光蛛丝，实验结果显示，谢贝尔教授表示，为研究蛛丝蛋白结构与功能关系提供了新工具，同时为开发高性能生物材料奠定了基础。证明外源基因已稳定整合入蛛丝蛋白。
